Marco Rossi: We'll learn a lot from Cyprus match

"I'm pleased with the final result, as the victory will improve team morale and have a positive impact on our further work", Rossi began. "Out of necessity, the starting team had to be much different to my preferred one, so it was already known that our game would might struggle a bit against a well-organised Cyprus team. We gave one player his debut and several players hadn’t played together before, which is why we had tactical problems, especially in possession of the ball in the first half, but still we didn’t give the opponent any serious goalscoring opportunities. We improved in the second half and passed the ball better, although it was at this time that Cyprus also carved out chances".

"I should also give credit to (goalkeeper) Dénes Dibusz for our clean sheet. There were some important tactical lessons from the match, but it should also be emphasised that we'll have to play a different kind of game in the European Championship, because we'll be the ones playing against bigger teams, so we'll have to build the counterattacks. Finally, I think it is important to mention that the atmosphere was great and from the beginning to the end we could feel the support from our fans, which we thank them for".

Answering a question from a journalist, Marco Rossi added that András Schäfer, who scored the goal and won a penalty, had an excellent match and, although he noticed it years ago when Schäfer was still playing his football at MTK, his game has now progressed.

He’s one of the players who has proven that I can count on him in the starting lineup and he can play an entire match against anyone. Everyone is given the opportunity and if they run, fight and show their talents on the pitch, they will have a chance of being selected".

Hungary's head coach also revealed that Ádám Szalai, Roland Sallai, Willi Orbán and Ádám Nagy weren't in the starting lineup this time due to minor muscle fatigue, but they are all available for the next match. Simply, they were rested only to avoid more serious injury.
