Men's Hungarian Cup: Ten-man Fradi shocked by Békéscsaba

Honvéd took a 22nd-minute lead away at Monor in this, the 8th round of the 2019/20 Hungarian Cup, Amadou Moutari the goalscorer. Second-half strikes from David Lanzafame and Krisztián Vadócz sealed the win and ensured Gábor Barthel's 84th-minute goal was just a consolation for the home side.

Pécs of the third tier disposed of top-division Kisvárda thanks to Olivér Tihányi's 65th-minute winner while Zalaegerszeg overcame Szarvas, the only remaining county-level team courtesy of first-half goals from János Szépe in the 16th minute and Eduvie Ikoba in the 43rd minute.

There were no worries for Puskás Akadémia as they scored three goals on their way to victory against Dabas-Gyón, Yoell van Nieff, Thomas Meissner and David Vanecek all finding the net for the Felcsút club.

Early goals saw Paks take control against Mosonmagyaróvár, Tamás Kecskés opening the scoring after five minutes before Dániel Böde, Tamás Báló and Norbert Könyves added their names to the scoresheet within the first half-hour in a 4-0 victory.

Bidding farewell to the competition were Vasas and Gyirmót, who both fell to third-tier opposition in extra-time after 1-1 draws in the regular 90 minutes. Richárd Balázs put III. Kerületi TVE ahead after 15 minutes against the former but veteran Sándor Torghelle levelled matters seven minutes later from the penalty spot. Áron Borvető scored the winner for III.kerület in the 116th minute and his side held on despite being reduced to ten men. Gyirmót also suffered in extra time, Bence Zámbó scoring Lipót's second goal in the 102th minute before Zoltán Farkas confirmed a 3-1 success.

Haladás came from behind to beat Budafok 2-1 with two late goals, Dunaújváros overcame Siofók by the same scoreline and Mezőkövesd scraped past Győr 3-2 after extra-time, Georgian striker Budu Zivzivadze deciding the match with a 117th-minute winner.

In the biggest shock of the round, Békéscsaba took a 39th-minute lead against Hungarian league title-holders Ferencváros, who had already been reduced to ten men after Leandro's 2nd-minute red card. Home-team goalkeeper János Uram produced some important saves to preserve his team's lead before Nikola Pantovic's 94th-minute strike secured Békéscsaba's passage to the last 16.

The Vác–Újpest and Dorog–Debrecen contests were postponed due to adverse pitch conditions and will be rearranged in due course.

Finally, Ózdi Kohász SC have been excluded from the league's third tier and therefore the Hungarian Cup too by the MLSZ's Disciplinary Committee but they are still permitted to appeal against this decision, so the progression of their planned opponents Kaposvár is still to be confirmed.
