Men's national squad back together again
Marco Rossi could count on every member of his Hungary men's squad in Tuesday afternoon's training session.
On Monday, Hungary's squad members were divided into several groups in Telki as the last few players arrived from abroad, but by Tuesday everyone was present. In the end, midfielder László Kleinheisler isn't in the squad for these final two World Cup qualifiers at home to San Marino and away against Poland, while in the absence of Willi Orbán and Péter Gulácsi, only Dominik Szoboszlai will be present from German club RB Leipzig.
Before the afternoon training session, one of the national team's newcomers, Tamás Kiss, and veteran Attila Fiola answered questions from journalists. Cambuur’s 21-year-old revealed that he had long hoped for an international call-up, but hadn’t expect to be included in Marco Rossi’s selections this autumn.
“I didn’t expect a call-up, but I was confident I could get into the team one day. I want to give a good performance in each session which will allow me to grab attention and possibly lead to a debut now. Zoltán Gera and the U21 staff have also congratulated me on my selection, and I would like to thank them for helping me so far, as it was also necessary for me to be here now", the forward said.
Defender Fiola added that older, more expertienced footballers try to help young players with everything, but that players who have reached the national team are already aware of the expectations they have to meet and that that they simply have to give 100% in every session in order to earn a role in the national team.
"We are only preparing for the match against San Marino at the moment; we have to dominate in this match and gain the three points with confidence and by playing well. It will likely be a completely different match in Warsaw and we will definitely have to defend more, but based on the match in Budapest in March, I am confident we have a chance to achieve a good result", Fiola said.
The match against San Marino will be officiated by Filip Glova from Slovakia, his assistants being Daniel Polacek and Peter Bednar from Slovakia and Fedayi San (VAR) from Switzerland.
