MLSZ pays tribute to 80-year-old Antal Szentmihályi
One of Hungary's greatest-ever goalkeepers, Antal Szentmihályi, turned 80 years old this week and the Hungarian Football Federation naturally took the chance to mark the special occasion.
June 13th 2019 was the 80th birthday of Antal Szentmihályi, the former Újpest Dózsa and Hungary goalkeeper who won multiple Hungarian league titles, was a 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup finalist and represented his nation at the 1966 FIFA World Cup finals.
Present at the celebration in the MLSZ headquarters were former teammate Antal Dunai, MLSZ Vice-President Sándor Berzi, Béla Brunyi and Mrs Judit Ács and memorable matches such as were recalled as the 1963 European Championship qualifier against Wales and the 1974 European Cup quarter-final against Spartak Trnava, which was only won by Újpest via a penalty shootout.
From 1977 to 1994, 31-times capped Szentmihályi followed his illustrious playing career with a coaching career athome and abroad.
