MOL Hungarian Cup Draw: III. kerület to take on defending champion
There are now only 32 teams left in the MOL Hungarian Cup and the draw to decide the last 16 has been made, holders Honvéd due to face fellow Budapest club III. kerület and Hungarian league champions Ferencváros pitted against Dorog. There will also be a Debrecen derby after DEAC were drawn to host DVSC.
By the end of last week, only four teams had not played their Round 7 ties, Ferencváros the last to join the last 32 teams in the MOL Hungarian Cup with a 5-0 victory over Bicske, a day after Szolnok had knocked out Gyirmót with a 92nd-minute winner. In addition to Gyirmót, fellow Merkantil Liga clubs Budaörs, Győri ETO, Szentlőrinc, Szeged, Nyíregyháza and Békéscsaba all bade farewell to the Cup for another year.
Saturday night’s draw put the NB I clubs in the spotlight, all of whom have stayed in the competition so far. As usual, all lower-tier teams in each one-off, knockout tie will assume the role of hosts and in the case of being drawn against a club from the same division, the team which has played the fewest Hungarian Cup games at home this season will be designated as hosts. If this is a tie the team drawn first will play at their own stadium.
The draw for round 8 was made by Gábor Gyepes, a two-time Cup winner with Ferencváros, in the M4 Sport TV studio.
