MOL Vidi claim Hungarian Cup with last-gasp winner
MOL Vidi secured their third Hungarian Cup triumph thanks to substitute Anel Hadzic's added-time winner as the club from the city of Székesfehérvár defeated Budapest Honvéd 2-1 at the Groupama Aréna in Budapest this evening.
Filip Holender had put Honvéd ahead in the 14th minute when he crashed a penalty off the post and into the right half of the net after he'd been impeded by fellow Hungarian international Paulo Vinicius.
In an exceptionally competitive match, Vidi head coach Marko Nikolic was sent to the stands for excessive appealing, but his team kept sufficiently calm to equalise with ten second-half minutes remaining, Marko Scepovic pouncing on Roland Juhász's knock-down from a right-wing Szabolcs Huszti corner and coolly passing the ball into the net from close range.
The Hungarian league runners-up this season then sealed the success in the 91st minute when Hadzic, who had come on at half-time for Ákos Elek, dispatched a right-footed finish inside the near post from a Huszti free-kick. It is the club's second Hungarian Cup title after their maiden win in 2006.
