Motivated teams await Super Cup final
Bayern Munich and Sevilla arrived in Budapest on Wednesday afternoon before each head coach held their pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday's European Super Cup final in the Puskás Aréna.
Bayern Munich seem to be in great shape ahead of this match, having started the new Bundesliga season with an 8-0 thrashing of FC Schalke 04. The Bavarian club have no injuries or absences so everyone in the squad is available for selection.
Bayern's head coach Hans-Dieter Flick praised his team's opponent this evening and his counterpart at Seville during his press conference.
"Sevilla deservedly won the Europa League; their team is comprised of experienced footballers and played extremely mature football throughout the campaign, which is obviously to the credit of the head coach. They are able to put pressure on their opponents but we are prepared for that. I expect intense, dynamic play and a very good match on Thursday night," the German club's coach explained.
For the Spanish team, this will be their first fixture of the new season, the six-time Europa League winners not having yet entered the field of play since lifting their latest European trophy over a month ago. Head coach Julen Lopetegui highlighted that there was little time between the end of the previous season and the start of the new season, but his team is very excited to be able to contest a trophy again.
"There has been little time between the end of the previous season and the start of the new season, but we are very excited about playing again. We are excited to be able to take part in another final and have a chance to win an important trophy in a good match. We should be a worthy competitor to Bayern Munich. Every player is motivated and we will need our best performance, both physically, mentally and as a team, to stand a chance of achieving a good result," the former Spain and Real Madrid head coach admitted.
