Nations League: 12 players start preparations at Telki
Hungary's domestically-based national-team members kicked off their preparations for next month's four Nations League matches in Telki on Monday, head coach Marco Rossi holding the first training session for ten outfield players and two goalkeepers.
"It's unusual for us to have four such tough challenges in just ten days," goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz commented. "We have experience against top teams and we can draw strength from previous good results. There is no pressure in terms of results, but we'd like to show again that we can compete with the best. I trust we can show we've progressed and we can give some nice moments to the fans. Maybe we can also surprise our opponents by dint of the fact that we're very dedicated and as a team we will do our best to win", concluded Dibusz, whom Rossi has previously said will play at least two of June's matches.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Zalán Vancsa made his debut in the U19 national team in the spring and is now considered to be worthy of a place in the full national squad. The striker, who moves from MTK Budapest to a Belgian club this summer, was surprised to be called up to train with the adults and then to be able to rejoin Marco Rossi's squad after an intervening U21 national team's European Championship qualifier.
"I coulddn't really comprehend what had happened when I found out I had been invited to join the full squad - it is a great honour for me to have the trust of Marco Rossi, I want to enjoy that confidence", Vancsa enthused. "For the first week I'm here, I'll try to show you what I can do. I don't become nervous about more daunting tasks, but it's a new situation, so it was a little different to enter the training centre in Telki and be with the full squad rather than one of the youth teams. After the first week here, I'll have to focus on the Hungarian U21 team's matches. It would be wonderful if, after my return, I would still retain Marco Rossi's confidence and he would give me my debut in the full national team, but I also know it is a completely different level than I've experienced in my career so far. I know this is an overwhelming sign of trust on the part of the head coach, and no matter which national team is counting on me in the future, it will be a great honour for me to wear the national shirt everywhere".
