OTP Bank Liga: MOL Fehérvár make the early running
It was a good weekend for away teams in the 2nd round of the 2019/2020 Men's OTP Bank Liga season, Fehérvár, Mezőkövesd and Újpest all securing three points on the road while there were also home victories for Debrecen and Paks.
Puskás Akadémia FC 0-2 MOL Fehérvár FC (HT: 0-0)
Goalscorers: Huszti (48. pen), Futács (80.)
PAFC: Hegedüs L. - Szolnoki, Meissner, Hadzsiev, Nagy Zs. - Van Nieff, Radics (Tamás N., 79.) - Sós (Kiss T., 64.), Knezevic, Henty - Vanecek
Fehérvár: Kovácsik - Nego, Juhász R., Fiola, Hangya - Kovács I., Hadzic (Petrjak, 79.), Pátkai, Huszti (Nikolov, 68.) - Hodzic (Milanov, 65.), Futács
The Fejer County derby started positively for Puskás Akadémia as their quick, combative attacks troubled Fehérvár's defence on more than one occasion. No breakthrough was forthcoming though and gradually the visitors settled into the game until they took the lead just after half-time when István Kovács was fouled and veteran playmaker Szabolc Huszti converted the resultant penalty. Puskás Akademia reacted well to that setback but will rue missing three great chances to equalise within the space of just a few minutes, mainly because Fehérvár striker Márkó Futács put the result beyond doubt with a clever finish ten minutes from the end of normal time.
Debreceni VSC 4-1 Kisvárda Master Good (2-1)
Goalscorers: DEB: Szatmári (13.), Varga K. (25.), Garba (62.), Pávkovics (94.), KIS: Grozav (28.)
Yellow cards: DEB: Garba (8.), Ferenczi (56.), KIS: Melnyik (12.), Kovácsréti (29.), Lucas (40.), Cukalasz (66.), Protic (84.)
DVSC: Nagy S. - Kusnyír, Szatmári, Pávkovics, Ferenczi - Tőzsér - Varga K., Haris, Trujic (Csősz, 79.) - Zsóri (Szécsi, 59.), Garba (Adeniji, 88.)
Kisvárda: Minca - Melnyik, Beriosz, Kravcsenko, Protic - Lucas, Cukalasz (Karaszjuk, 77.) - Hugo Seco (Sassá, 70.), Grozav, Kovácsréti - Gosztonyi (Tischler, 63.)
Visitors Kisvárda took this match to their more illustrious opponents from the beginning and could have taken a fourth-minute lead, only for András Gosztonyi to spurn the opportunity. Debrecen punished them for this too, going ahead after a quarter of an hour through Csaba Szatári's cose-range finish and then doubling their lead on 25 minutes courtesy of Kevin Varga's free-kick into the top-right corner of the net. Kisvárda hit back and halved the deficit straightaway through Gheorghe-Teodor Grozav and both teams went close to scoring again in an entertaining first half, despite the blisteringly high temperatures. A predictably tiring second half was dominated by the hosts, who scored further goals through Zambuk Garba and Gábor Pávkovics to ensure their first match of the season (their first scheduled fixture against Ferencváros last week was postponed due to their opponent's European commitments) ended in victory.
Paksi FC 3-1 Budapest Honvéd (2-0)
Goalscorers: PAKS: Remili (35.), Hahn (45+1., 63.), HON: Moutari (76.)
Red card: HON: Batik (87.)
Paksi FC: Holczer - Osváth, Lenzsér, Fejes, Szabó J. - Papp, Berdó, Bartha, Remili (Cseke, 67.) - Hahn (Windecker, 81.), Könyves (Böde, 86.)
Budapest Honvéd: Berla - Batik, Kamber, Lovric - Uzoma, Ikenne-King, Moretti (Moutari, 75.), Banó-Szabó, Kukoc (Egerszegi, 57.) - Kulacs (Cipf, 57.), N'Gog
This was an even match from the outset, both sides threatening from crosses but neither finiding a way through in the first half hour. This all changed though when Mohamed Remili capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put the hosts a goal up after 35 minutes. Paks goalkeeper Ádám Holczer denied Honvéd an equaliser before János Hahn doubled the home team's lead in first-half added time. They retained control in the second half and secured the three points just after the hour mark with Hahn's second goal. Moutari reduced the deficit for Honvéd in the 76th minute but it turned out to be just a consolation goal as Paks won against Honvéd for the first time since August 2015, a run of seven defeats and four draws.
Kaposvári Rákóczi FC 1-2 Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC (HT: 1-2)
Goalscorers: KAP: Nagy K. (12.), MEZ: Nagy D. (14.), Cseri (30.)
Kaposvári Rákóczi: Pogacsics - Vachtler, Ur, Hegedűs D., Hadaró - Vojnovic (Jakimiv, 58.) - Nagy R., Szakály A., Nagy K. (Beliczky, 46.), Csiki (Nagy J., 70.) - Ádám M.
Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC: Szappanos - Eperjesi, Neszterov, Katanec, Vadnai (Silye, 77.) - Berecz, Karnyicki - Pekár, Cseri (Vajda, 77.), Nagy D. (Sajbán, 86.) - Molnár G.
Mezőkövesd secured their second win in a row at the start of the 2019/20 OTP Bank Liga season on Saturday, following up last week's defeat of Zalaegerszeg with another win over a newly-promoted side, namely Kaposvár, this time away from home.
The visitors actually started the game in the ascendancy and were camped in their hosts' half, only the occasional counter-attack or cross causing any concern to them. However, Kaposvár took a 12th-minute lead in their first top-flight home game for five-and-a-half years through 24-year-old local youth product Krisztián Nagy but that failed to alter the courseof the game and Attila Kuttor's team soon equalised when summer signing from Újpest, Dániel Nagy, pounced on goalkeeper Kristián Pogacsics's error. The away side then took the lead midway through the half courtesy of Tamás Cseri's superb individual effort, the 31-year old tricking his way past three defenders before planting the ball into the corner of the net. Mezőkövesd maintained their superiority during the second period too, only wayward finishing preventing them from extending their advantage over a Kaposvár eleven which, for the most part, looked toothless in attack.
Diósgyőri VTK Rákóczi FC 1-2 Újpest FC (HT: 1-1)
Goalscorers: DIÓ: Tajti (37.), ÚJP: Zsótér (14.), Nwobodo (48.)
DVTK: Danilovic - Ternován (Bacsa, 58.), Brkovic, Karan (Szabó B., 77.), Polgár - Márkvárt, Adukor - Shestakov, Tajti, Juhar (Hasani, 52.) - Prosser
Újpest: Pajovic - Pauljevic, Ristevski, Litauszki, Balázs B. - Sankovic, Onovo - Simon K. (Bjarnason, 90.), Rácz (Mészáros, 70.), Zsótér (Kovács L., 82.) - Nwobodo
Újpest took an early grip on this match in Miskolc and edged ahead thanks to Dónát Zsótér's 14th-minute strike from a rebound following a low, left-wing cross from Benjamin Balázs. The Budapest club couldn't double their lead though, despite holding the majority of possession and instead it was Diósgyőr who levelled matters before the half-time break, Mátyás Tajti dispatching an indirect free-kick high into the Újpest net from seven metres after visiting goalkeeper Filip Pajovic had picked up what was adjudged to have been a backpass from captain Róbert Litauszki.
Three second-half minutes were all that had passed before Újpest regained the lead though, a phenomenal 20-metre strike into the top-right corner of the home net from the left channel by 22-year old Emmanuel Nwobodo proving to be the wiining goal in the 48th minute. Diósgyőr did push hard for an equaliser but Dániel Prosser missed their best chance from close range with ten minutes remaining and thus their four-match winning streak is halted and their four-match unbeaten run in the league has come to an end. Meanwhile, Újpest ended a run of seven matches without victory stretching back to the start of April.
