OTP Bank Liga: Puskás Akadémia secure second spot ahead of Fehérvár
The final weekend of the OTP Bank Liga season sees Puskás Akadémia seal a UEFA Europa League qualification spot and MOL Fehérvár forced to settle for entry into the new UEFA Conference League. Elsewhere, Ferencváros set a record points total in completing their title-winning season.
A thumping 5-0 victory over relegated Budafok ensured that Puskás Akadémia finish this season as OTP Bank Liga runners-up, the Felcsút club's best-ever final placing in a league campaign and one which means they get a chance to improve upon this season's first qualifying round exit in the Europa League.
Zsolt Hornyák's team will be joined in the Europa League by MOL Hungarian Cup winners Újpest, who eventually ended a turbulent season in 7th position. The league's bronze medallists and sole entrant into UEFA's inaugural Conference league competition will be MOL Fehérvár, Imre Szabic's side thrashing the division's other relegated club Diósgyőr 4-0.
Back at the top of the table, Ferencváros travelled to Budapest rivals Honvéd and earned the three points they needed to set a new, all-time points record in a 12-team Hungarian top tier, Serhiy Rebrov's charges eventually finishing the 2020-21 season on 78 points.
