OTP Bank Liga: Three out of three for Fehérvár and Mezőkövesd

Fehérvár and Mezőkövesd top the OTP Ban Liga after home victories over Diósgyőr and Puskás Akadémia, but Honvéd remain pointless at the foot of the table following defeat at home to Kisvárda.

Újpest began the stronger, almost scoring through Obinna Nwobodo in the 3rd minute, but as the match evened out Paks themselves came close with a Kristóf Papp overhead effort just after the half-hour mark. Újpest continued to create the more dangerous chances after the break but it was Paks who stunned the home crowd as substitute Nobert Könyves latched onto a long ball and rounded Filip Pajović to slot home in the 57th minute. Újpest equalised twelve minutes later courtesy of a close-range Bojan Sanković header and almost won the match in injury time as a Nwobodo diving header flew inches past the post, but in the end both sides had to settle for a share of the points.

Mezőkövesd 1-0 Puskás Akadémia

Goalscorer: Cseri (46’)

Mezőkövesd: Szappanos – Eperjesi, Nesterov, Katanec, Vadnai – Berecz, Karnitsky – Pekár, Cseri (Vajda S., 66’), Molnár G. (Silye, 88’) – Nagy D. (Zivzivadze, 74’)

Josip Knežević hit the post for Puskás Akadémia in the tenth minute but with goalscoring opportunities few and far between, the match was goalless at half-time. That changed with the first attack of the second half, Tamás Cseri shooting into the top corner from 25 yards out to give Lajos Hegedüs in the Puskás Akadémia goal no chance. Attila Kuttor’s side seemed happy to settle for a single-goal victory, which puts them level on top with Fehérvár on nine points from three matches.

Ferencváros 1-0 Kaposvár

Goalscorer: Zubkov (7’)

Ferencváros: Gróf – Botka, Blažič, Frimpong, Heister – Ihnatenko, Leandro (Haratin, 74’) – Zubkov (Nguen, 64’), Bőle, Varga R. – Boli (Signevich, 81’)

Sergii Rebrov made wholesale changes to his side which was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday, giving many players who have yet to feature much the opportunity to shine, as well resting others prior to the Europa League play-off against Sūduva. One player who kept his place was right-winger Oleksandr Zubkov and he scored what proved to be the winning goal as early as the seventh minute, blasting high into the net from 14 yards after being set up by Lukács Bőle. Fradi dominated throughout but were unable to add to the score, Krisztián Pogacsics denying Roland Varga, Marcel Heister, Danylo Ihnatenko, Franck Boli and Tokmac Nguen in a Man-of-the-Match display.

Fehérvár 5-1 Diósgyőr

Goalscorers: FEH: Elek (13’), Futács (53’), Danilović (73’ own goal), Hodžić (75’, 85’); DIÓ: Prosser (1’)

Diósgyőr took a 26-second lead against Fehérvár at the MOL Aréna Sóstó, Dániel Prosser scoring after a cross from the left had evaded Roland Juhász. Fehérvár were level before quarter of an hour though, Ákos Elek on hand to bundle the ball home at the second attempt after a Huszti free kick had played havoc in the Diósgyőr box. The home side had reasonable claims for a penalty and a goal disallowed but they gradually ground down their opponents after Diósgyőr defender Dušan Brković received a red card. Márkó Futács put the hosts ahead in the 53rd minute, slotting into the net after being teed up by István Kovács. It was 3-1 by the 73rd minute, a Juhász header rebounding off the post and into the net off Branko Danilovic, and substitute Armin Hodžić added a further two late on to take his season tally to four  as Fehérvár ran out comfortable 5-1 winners.

Budapest Honvéd celebrated their 110th birthday against Kisvárda, Davide Lanzafame being welcomed back into the side after a year at Ferencváros, but their celebrations were cut short by Kisvárda who scored a ninth-minute opener when Cornel Ene headed home a Gheorghe Grozav free kick. The visitors then doubled their lead just after the hour mark with a low drive from Lucas. David N’Gog got a goal back in the 90th minute as he tapped home a Tonči Kukoč cross but Grozav added a third, heading in a wayward clearance from goalkeeper András Horváth in injury time to compound Honvéd’s woe.

Debrecen 3-2 Zalaegerszeg

Goalscorers: DEB: Trujić (2’), Szécsi (24’), Garba (66’); ZAL: Bedi (17’), Mitrović (64’)

Debrecen were another team to score early on, Nikola Trujić stabbing home on two minutes after Haruna Garba’s head from a Kevin Varga corner had come crashing off the crossbar. Zalaegerszeg equalised fifteen minutes later, also from a corner, Bence Bede the scorer, but Márk Szécsi had Loki 2-1 up by the 24th minute when he converted a János Ferenczi cross, as Debrecen went in 2-1 ahead at the break. A somewhat scrappy second half saw the teams exchange goals midway through, Nikola Mitrović levelling in the 64th minute from a Krisztián Tamás cross, before Garba replied two minutes later with what turned out to be the match-winner as Debrecen edged the match 3-2. They now sit third in the table with six points from two matches while Zalaegerszeg remain at the foot of the table along with fellow promoted club Kaposvár and Honvéd.
