Rossi: It wasn't our day against Italy
Hungary's head coach says his team was unable to implement the planned tactics against the European champions..
The Hungarian men's national team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Italy in Cesena in their latest Nations League match. Post-match, Marco Rossi emphasised that his team can't be expected to play as well as they did against England last weekend in every other match.
"It has now been proven that if we can't follow our tactics closely, we can have problems, because then we have to fight individual battles, and that will not necessarily be in our favour against leading players from countries such as Italy", Rossi admitted. “We have a chance against a stronger opponent if we play fantastically or they have a bad day. We didn’t have a good day today, but the Italian national team played well. Looking at today’s match, we have to accept this result, even if it hadn’t come against European Championship winners Italy. Almost all of their players play for top clubs, but even so, we still matched them in the second half. We need to build the team step by step, but results such as the one we have achieved against England cannot be guaranteed every time".
Hungary will next play in the Nations League on Saturday 11th June when they host Germany in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
