Rossi: We deserved this nice end to the year
Hungary head coach Marco Rossi followed his team's 2-1 victory against Greece by stating that they must continue to produce similarly battling performances in order to retain their supporters' sympathies and wonderful support.
Earlier, long-serving Balázs Dzsudzsák's selection had seen the winger and captain win his 109th cap and in the process break his country's all-time appearance record. Teammate Zsolt Kalmár then confirmed his successful recovery from a long-term injury by scoring a 93rd-minute winning goal direct from a free-kick.
"We deserved to end the year with a victory - albeit of course a little luck was necessary for success - but as I always say, it's not just in football where it's difficult to success without a little luck but in every area of life," Rossi admitted. "We need to nurture today's luck for the coming matches in our European Championship qualifying campaign. Balázs (Dzsudzsák)'s farewell was nice and he deserved a match like this, his last international game played in these conditions and in a wonderful atmosphere. Technically-speaking, we've developed in some areas. We kept possession of the ball better, we played with more conviction and patience when we had the ball, all of which was missing from our game against Luxembourg three days ago and of course there is still work to do in these aspects. Before the match I said to the boys that we've been able to return hope to Hungarians. That so many came to watch this match is a huge delight which we must nurture and to do this we must battle for every ball in the future too, thereby representing Hungary proudly no matter which opponent we will face".
