Rossi: We did our best against one of the world's elite

Following Hungary's narrow 3-2 home loss to Portugal in Tuesday's second 2026 World Cup qualifier, head coach Marco Rossi highlighted that his team had held their own against one of the best teams in the world and had done everything they could have in order to achieve a good result.
"We played against one of the strongest teams in the world and I think we did everything we could have," Rossi admitted. "Portugal are sixth in the world rankings, and along with Spain, they are currently the best in Europe. You have to play with humility against such a opponent and you have to admit that losing is part of the game, even if we have a bitter taste in our mouths now, because the latter stages of the match was annoying. We defended in the second half as was necessary, but we didn't give up on attacking either. When we had the chance, we scored the equaliser, but the third Portuguese goal, which could have been avoided, came shortly after. We're disappointed because we created a good situation for ourselves five minutes before the final whistle. Our goal is to finish second in the group and for this, we have to win against Armenia, which won't be easy, but we'll continue to try to be at our best,” Rossi explained after the match.
