Rossi: We must concentrate and focus only on ourselves

Hungary will host Portugal in their second 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday evening, and at the pre-match press conference, head coach Marco Rossi and team captain Dominik Szoboszlai answered journalists' questions, the former emphasising that team selection must also take into account who is able to regenerate after Saturday's match in Ireland and how well.
"Our task is to stay focused throughout, to only worry about ourselves. We will play in front of a large crowd on Tuesday in the Puskás Arena and we want to see smiles on these fans' faces at the end of the match. Portugal can select almost any of their squad in the starting line-up and their strength will not change, but we do not have such squad depth at our disposal. We'll assess how much each player has been able to recharge after Saturday's match, then we'll consider who is in the best shape and condition, and put together the team with this in mind," Rossi explained.
"If a footballer is selected to play against a team with world-class players including a legend [in Cristiano Ronaldo], but despite this, his motivation is not right, then he has chosen the wrong profession and he should not be involved in football. Our task is to make life difficult for Portugal - if we are skilful and lucky, then the match can end with a positive result. The goal is to try to win, but at least fight for a draw."
Joining his head coach in speaking to the media was team captain Dominik Szoboszlai, who admitted that Hungary must play football with full concentration throughout and fight for each other on the pitch.
"The expectation from me is that everyone gives their heart and soul so that we can come off the pitch with our heads held high after every match. The goal, the dream, of course, is to qualify for the World Cup or at least have a chance in the play-offs, so we have to do everything we can on Tuesday. Battle, fight, run for as long as we can, because Portugal are ahead of us in terms of quality. We spent the night after the match against Republic of Ireland in Dublin, so we had time to rest. Those who played only a little, trained, so everyone is ready for Tuesday's match. Marco Rossi will decide who will replace Roland Sallai. Roli is a key player for the team; he has experience and quality, but whoever is here in the national team is waiting to get an opportunity and wants to take advantage of it. Whoever will be in his position, I have no doubt that he will do everything to succeed," Szoboszlai stated.
Hungary's World Cup qualifier against Portugal will be officiated by Belgian referee Erik Lambrechts. His assistants will be Jo de Weirdt and Kevin Monteny, the fourth official will be Jasper Vergoote, while Bram Van Driessche will assist them from the VAR room.
