Rossi: We need to concentrate from start to finish

The aeroplane carrying the Hungary men's national squad landed in Belfast shortly before 18:00 local time on Monday. The team then went for a walk inside Windsor Park, the venue for Tuesday’s match, before head coach Marco Rossi and player Ádám Nagy, who made his debut in this stadium seven years ago, attended an official press conference.

Early in the press conference, Rossi stated that Péter Gulácsi had felt pain in his right leg during today's training session back in Hungary, so since it had previously been agreed that Dénes Dibusz would be Hungary's goalkeeper against Northern Ireland, it was decided that it would have been an unnecessary risk to take the Leipzig goalkeeper to Belfast. Rossi expects a difficult match against Northern Ireland, emphasising that "we'll have to concentrate from start to finish".

"Although Northern Ireland are not technically on the same level as Serbia or our Nations League opponents, they are physically. In addition, not only do their players have strength, but also speed. It will be an interesting test for us because the home side are excellent in defence and real fighters on the pitch. European champions Italy could also only manage a goalless draw with them, so I sincerely hope that we won't have as many problems as my compatriots did in November".

Marco Rossi also revealed that he wanted to give both of the squad's new members, Callum Styles and Ádám Martin, a chance against Northern Ireland, but didn't say whether he intended to start them or bring them on from the substitutes' bench. All the players heading to Belfast are healthy, so Rossi can select from a full squad, including Ádám Nagy, who made his full international debut in Belfast on 7th September 2015.

"This stadium has changed a lot since then, and it's as if it would be a completely different facility," the Pisa midfielder began. "I remember we got changed in big containers in one corner of the stadium, but now we have a beautiful dressing room. I'm very happy that I've played 58 matches in the national team since then and I know we'll definitely have a tough match tomorrow. Our opponent will play direct football so this will be a different type of match than against Serbia. This time we want to control the match and play an attractive, entertaining style of football; gaining possession of loose balls will be key in this match".

Irishman Dermot Broughton will referee the match which starts on Tuesday at 20:45 Hungarian time. His assistants will be fellow Irishmen Darragh Keegan and Neil Doyle, but they won't be able to use VAR to assist their work this time.
