Újpest stun Fehérvár as Ferencváros move into second
Two late goals at the MOL Aréna Sóstó saw Újpest end Fehérvár’s unbeaten start to the season while Ferencváros rose to second place after labouring to victory against Kisvárda. Elsewhere, there were wins for Honvéd, Puskás Akadémia, Zalaegerszeg and Kaposvár.
Fehérvár 0-2 Újpest
Goalscorers: Onovo (81’), Feczesin (90+1’)
Fehérvár: Kovácsik – Nego, Juhász R., Musliu, Stopira – Kovács I. (Hadžić 84’), Nikolov, Huszti (Pantić 70’), Petriak – Hodžić, Futács (Pátkai 57’)
Újpest: Banai – Balázs B., Heris, Ristevski, Bureković – Sanković – Simon K., Nwobodo (Szakály P. 92’), Onovo, Pauljević (Zsótér 77’) – Feczesin
Újpest began brightly, Ádám Kovácsik denying Krisztián Simon as early as the second minute, before Márkó Futács came closest to opening the scoring for the home side midway through the first half, his eighteen-yard effort being tipped onto the bar and out for a corner by Dávid Banai.
The Budapest side had been the livelier in the first half but Fehérvár took the initiative in the second, albeit without unduly threatening Banai’s goal. The match was decided late on by two Újpest goals on the counter-attack, the first coming in the 81st minute as Dženan Bureković broke down the left, Obinna Nwobodo found Róbert Feczesin and the Újpest captain played in Vincent Onovo who slotted home. The second came in injury-time, Simon breaking down the right and finding Feczesin at the back post for the simplest of finishes. The result sees Fehérvár lose their unbeaten record as Újpest climb to fifth.
Ferencváros 1-0 Kisvárda
Goalscorer: Leandro (86’)
Ferencváros: Dibusz – Lovrencsics, Blažič, Dvali (Frimpong, 73’), Heister – Sigér (Leandro, 46’), Haratin – Zubkov, Škvarka (Varga R., 46’), Nguen – Boli
Kisvárda: Felipe – Melnyik, Berios, Kravchenko, Protić – Hey, Bumba (Hugo Seco, 62’), Lucas, Kovácsréti (Sassá, 86’) – Tischler (Gosztonyi, 56’), Grozav
An 86th-minute strike from half-time substitute Leandro gave Sergii Rebrov’s side a precious 1-0 victory over Kisvárda at the Groupama Aréna, a result which sees them rise to second in the table, three points behind Fehérvár and with a game in hand.
Ferencváros dominated possession but struggled to create any real goalscoring opportunities in a first half almost bereft of goalmouth action. Rebrov made two half-time substitutions in an attempt to change the course of the match, Leandro and Roland Varga coming on for Dávid Sigér and Michal Škvarka, but apart from Felipe being called upon to claw away a Leandro header, Ferencváros were similarly toothless in the second half.
Indeed, they twice had Dénes Dibusz to thank for denying Hugo Seco and András Gosztonyi and rode their luck when Thodoris Berios, unmarked in the Fradi penalty area, sent a header just wide of the post. The winning goal also involved a stroke of good fortune, Oleksandr Zubkov’s shot being blocked but falling for Leandro at the edge of the box, the veteran midfielder then drilling the ball low into the corner of the net from twenty yards for his third goal in a week, following his strikes away to Zalaegerszeg last Sunday and Iváncsa in the Hungarian Cup in midweek.
Mezőkövesd 1-2 Honvéd
Goalscorers: MEZ: Sajbán (79’); HON: Banó-Szabó (34’), Ben-Hatira (48’)
Mezőkövesd: Szappanos – Eperjesi, Nesterov, Katanec, Vadnai – Berecz, Bertus (Pekár 74’) – Vajda (Sajbán 60’), Cseri, Nagy D. (Molnár G. 51.) – Zivzivadze
Honvéd: Tujvel – Batik, Kamber, Lovrić – Uzoma, Nagy G., Banó-Szabó (Kesztyűs 61’), Vadócz, Aliji – Ben-Hatira (Lanzafame 91’), Moutari (Cipf 81’)
A goal in each half from Bence Banó-Szabó and Änis Ben-Hatira gave Honvéd all three points away to Mezőkövesd despite a late home comeback attempt. The Budapest side went in ahead at the break, Banó-Szabó having given them the lead in the 34th minute with a fine, swerving strike from distance, and were two ahead in the 48th as Ben-Hatira cut inside from the right before planting a firm shot past Péter Szappanos from twelve yards.
Máté Sajbán reduced the deficit in the 79th minute, driving home left-footed from the edge of the box following a quick break, but Honvéd held firm to record their second victory of the season ahead of next weekend’s big derby at home to Ferencváros.
Debrecen 1-2 Puskás Akadémia
Goalscorers: DEB: Szécsi (83’); PUS: Gyurcsó (10’, 43’)
Debrecen: Nagy S. – Kinyik, Szatmári, Pávkovics, Ferenczi – Tőzsér (Trujić, 63’) – Csősz (Garba, 46’), Varga K., Haris, Szécsi – Adeniji (Bényei, 93’) Puskás Akadémia: Hegedüs – Szolnoki, Meissner, Hadzhiev, Nagy Zs. – Urblík, Van Nieff – Gyurcsó (Spandler, 88’), Knežević (Vlasko, 86’), Sós (Kiss T., 70’) – Vaněček
Two first-half strikes from Ádám Gyurcsó were enough for Puskás Akadémia to leave the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen with all three points. The first goal came in the 10th minute, Jozef Urblík sending the Hungarian international winger free in the right channel with a fine slide-rule pass and Gyurcsó slotting past Sándor Nagy before the Debrecen defence could catch him.
Tunde Adeniji almost levelled for Debrecen moments later, rounding Lajos Hegedüs but seeing his shot from a tight angle roll just wide. Hegedüs was then called upon to save a Márk Szécsi effort but Puskás Akadémia doubled their lead two minutes before the break, Gyurcsó punishing an Attila Haris error by drilling home after the ball had broken right in front of him in the box.
Content to sit back and soak up the pressure in the second half, Puskás Akadémia preserved their two-goal lead until the 83rd minute, Szécsi – who had come close for the home side just after the hour-mark – converting a Haruna Garba cross. Indeed, they had Hegedüs to thank for a late save to deny Ákos Kinyik an equaliser, but ultimately held on for their fourth victory of the season.
Zalaegerszeg 3-1 Paks
Goalscorers: ZAL: Radó (27’), Stieber (36’), Mitrović (71’); PAK: Böde (9’)
Zalaegerszeg: Demjén – Bolla, Lesjak, Bobál D., Tamás K. – Kocsis G., Mitrović (Hudák, 89’) – Bedi, Stieber, Radó (Babati, 81’) – Ikoba (Bobál G., 62’) Paks: Holczer – Szabó J., Zachán, Fejes A., Osváth – Balogh B. (Remili, 71’), Papp K. – Windecker, Hahn, Könyves (Fejős, 71’) – Böde
Zalaegerszeg bounced back from the anguish of losing by two late goals against Ferencváros last week by coming from behind to comfortably beat a Paks side who had captain Dániel Böde sent off in the 75th minute.
The match had begun well for Böde, the forward giving Paks a ninth-minute lead – his first goal since re-joining Paks in the summer – as he volleyed home an Attila Osváth cross from the right. Zalaegerszeg were soon level though, András Radó the first to react to Dávid Bobál’s knockdown from a raking Zoltán Stieber crossfield pass in the 27th minute. Stieber was the scorer as Zalaegerszeg took the lead nine minutes later, lashing the ball home from the left after Paks had failed to clear a Nikola Mitrović free kick, the home side ahead 2-1 at the break, Radó having hit the crossbar with a free-kick in first-half time added on.
Mitrović stroked home a third goal for Zalaegerszeg in the 71st minute and the match soon was all-but-over as a contest, Böde receiving his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident with Gergő Kocsis.
Kaposvár 2-0 Diósgyőr
Goalscorers: Nagy T. (20’), Szakály A. (54’)
Kaposvár: Pogacsics (Slakta, 46’) – Vachtler, Hegedűs, Nagy T., Fodor – Nagy R., Szakály A., Nagy J. (Nagy K., 46’), Csiki (Balázs Zs., 83’) – Beliczky, Ádám
Diósgyőr: Danilović – Polgár (Tabaković, 72’), Brković, Karan, Tamás – Márkvárt, Iszlai – Prosser, Hasani (Korbély, 55’), Rui Pedro – Ivanovski
Kaposvár leapfrogged ahead of Diósgyőr in the foot-of-the-table clash at the Rákóczi Stadion courtesy of goals from Tamás Nagy and Attila Szakály. Nagy broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, heading home Richárd Nagy’s cross following a short-corner routine and Szakály blasting home the second in the 54th minute after Ádám Martin’s effort had come back off the post. Honvéd, Kaposvár and Diósgyőr now prop up the table on six points with Zalaegerszeg and Paks a point ahead.
