Under 19s to begin Elite round preparation against Greece

Hungary's Under 19 men's team will begin their preparations for March's UEFA U19 European Championship Elite round with a trip to Athens to face their Greek counterparts.

The Netherlands was the venue for Hungary's Main round group in autumn 2017, which ended in a second-place finish behind the hosts, wins over Slovenia and Malta securing progression to the Elite round which will take place in Macedonia from 21st March. This despite Hungary possessing the youngest squad on average in the competition with some players having been born in 2000 and having stepped up to U19 level after a sixth-place finish with Hungary Under 17s in last spring's Under-17 European Championship. The Under 19 age group this year includes players who were born as long ago as 1st January 1999.

While two teams qualified from each Main round group, only one nation will progress from each Elite round group to the finals tournament in Finland in July 2018. Hungary's rivals for this single place are title-holders England, Latvia and hosts Macedonia. Before that though, Hungary will spend four days at a training camp in Greece, one which includes a training match against Greece at 11am on Wednesday.
