Under 21s face perhaps their toughest task yet

Hungary will play their last match of the Under-21 European Championship at 18:00 on Tuesday against perhaps the group's best team, Netherlands, in the Sóstó Aréna in Székesfehérvár.

Zoltán Gera's side were unable to gain points against either Germany or Romania in their first two group-stage fixtures, so it is certain they'll not advance to the quarter-finals of UEFA's U21 European Championship. The Dutch, meanwhile, have posted two draws prior to this last group match, so for them only victory will give them a place in the last eight.

Before the game, Hungary coach Gera reiterated that there was still plenty at stake, since his team will be playing against an very strong team in an important tournament, despite already having been knocked out:

"We'll take this match seriously too. we know how we want to play and we hope to see it on the pitch as soon as possible. The first two matches took a lot out of the players, so regeneration has been the main focus in the last few days. We have to battle hard with a fresh, strong team".

The former Ferencváros, West Brom and Fulham playmaker also admitted the players were downhearted after the second defeat, mainly because they'd conceded the winner in the final few minutes:

Immediately after the match, we discussed that we might still be sad that night, but that we have to start preparing the next day for the next match. We told all the squad members it's a huge opportunity for them and for us to be able to compete against such opponents in this European Championship".

Perhaps the most difficult match will come against the Netherlands today, our opponent being forced to seek the win in order to advance from the group stage.

"Everyone is trying to do their best here and the Dutch will want to make up for the loss of points in the first two matches, but we're prepared for this and know a very tough contest awaits us", Gera emphasised. "The Dutch are a very skilful team. We expect them to have more of the ball and that they'll keep us under a lot of pressure. We want to get out of this as many times as possible, so we need to close the areas in front of them. We want to improve by being faster with the ball and in the transition phase".

Balázs Bese also spoke at the pre-match press conference and explained that, as a goalkeeper, he needs to concentrate at all times against opponents who keep defences under pressure and are dangerous in front of goal:

"We'll face a very strong team; the Dutch are very skilled both as a team and individually. They have to win if they want to progress (to the knockout stages), but we also want to gain points or a point,” said Bese, who added that as a keeper he might have been pleased with his performance in the previous two matches, had he been able to save the match against Romania.
