Vancsa latest to join up with Rossi's Hungary squad

Hungary Men have not yet been able to bring together a full squad to prepare for the Nations League matches in June, but on Tuesday all but one of the group present was able to take part in head coach Marco Rossi’s latest training session.

After a weekend break, Hungary's Nations League preparations continued in Telki, the national football association's training centre. Compared to last week, the number of squad members has increased, with the foreign-based players selected all now at the disposal of head coach Marco Rossi with the exceptions of Dániel Gazdag, who has not yet been able to join his teammates due to a positive covid test, and Ádám Nagy, who will arrive in Telki on Tuesday.

The Pisa midfielder joins the squad at the last minute and since it is not yet known whether Dániel Gazdag will be able to join up, Zalán Vancsa will stay with the squad for the match against England instead of travelling to Germany with the U21s.

At the press conference before Tuesday afternoon's training session, Péter Szappanos, the Budapest Honvéd goalkeeper, and Roland Sallai, the Freiburg forward, answered journalists' questions.

"At the moment, my task is to support Peti Gulácsi and Dini Dibusz as much as possible, but whoever is in the squad must be ready to play at any time. I’m also preparing so that if I get a chance, I can be ready. Before each match, we preparing specifically for our opponents 'attackers, set pieces, long shots... there is no other way nowadays, so we try to analyse the opponents' game as thoroughly as possible", Szappanos admitted.

Roland Sallai last played when he featured in the German Cup final with Freiburg, after which he received a week's rest, in order to arrive in Telki fully recharged.

"We are playing against very strong opponents, so the most important thing is to function well as a team," Sallai stated. "If we follow every tactical detail and play with maximum motivation and attention, we can achieve good results. We're glad that the stands will not be empty against the English, and according to current estimations, around 30,000 children will be cheering for us. I'm confident that the Puskás Arena will be full for the match versus Germany, and we will once again prove that we are capable of performing well against the strongest teams in the world".

Hungary will be first take on England on 4th June in the Puskás Arena. After Saturday's clash, the squad heads to Cesena, where they will play hosts and reigning European champions Italy on 7th June.
