We must fight for every ball

Hungary Men's head coach Marco Rossi expects to face a strong opponent in Friday's friendly match against Sweden, but believes his squad also have high-quality players, who will help the team compete.

Hungary will host Sweden from 19:30 CET on Friday in the Puskás Arena, but first came their Matchday -1 press conference in Telki.

"I'd like to see the desire to fight for every ball on the pitch, in order to win the 50-50 contests," emphasised head coach Marco Rossi. "Everyone has to have the fire, which will come through in the players' performances and play. These days, everyone is focused on what will happen in the autumn, but those matches are far away, so now we have to focus on the two friendly matches ahead of us. We can gain the experience we need from the match and it can highlight our shortcomings, but a good result would give us confidence for the next period. Despite the fact it's a friendly match, I see in everyone that they want to perform well. We've been able to test different tactical situations in training and the guys’ reactions were positive, so we'd like to see this in the match too. Due to various issues, Milos Kerkez and Barnabás Varga won't take to the pitch on Friday. As for Sweden, they're physically strong and have many top-tier footballers who relish one-on-one situations, so they'll definitely want to win on Friday, but we also have high-quality players who can help us compete with them."

Alongside Marco Rossi in the press conference before Thursday's training session was player Áron Csongvai, who has been playing in Sweden for AIK since February.

"I only arrived in Sweden in February, but I quickly managed to establish a good relationship with my teammates. Naturally, this match has been discussed at my club, once I, like several of my teammates, received a call-up to our respective national teams. The Swedish national team is a technical team, which has very good players. They play at a high standard, so I'm sure we'll face a strong and difficult opponent on Friday. I'm very happy to be able to return to the national team, which I take as good feedback. The atmosphere hasn't changed - it's well known that the harmony is very good, so it was good to experience this again. I trust that we'll put into practice things tomorrow, which can be useful to us in future," Csongvai explained.

Hungary's match against Sweden on Friday evening will be led by Turkish referee Atilla Karaoğlan. His assistants will be Abdullah Bora Özkara and Deniz Caner Özaral, the fourth official will be Oğuzhan Çakır and Onur Özütoprak will assist from the VAR room.
