Women’s Under-19 squad trains at Telki
The Hungarian Women’ Under-19 squad has begun its preparations for the coming autumn qualifying season. Many players from last season’s Under-17s have received an invitation to join Sándor Turtóczki’s squad and will be hoping to make the cut for the UEFA Women’s Under-19 qualification round.
Hungary face hosts Turkey, Denmark and Kosovo in Group 12 of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 qualification round in early October. Sándor Turtóczki’s squad have successfully qualified for the elite round for the past four years running, but unable to manoeuvre their way past the elite round to the finals.
The squad has begun its preparations early as they seek to secure qualification for the elite round for the fifth year running, because, as Turtóczki puts it, “It’s important that the girls are also available for their clubs in the upcoming championship season”. One of the main tasks for Turtóczki and his staff will be to find a system which will successfully integrate the many newcomers from last season’s Under-17s, with Beatrix Fördős, Rebeka Róth, Dorottya Czellér, Luca Papp and Vanessza Nagy being invited to join the group.
“It was a highly talented group and I believe that those who performed well in the Under-17s deserve the call-up to the Under-19 squad”, he added, before explaining that: “We didn’t call Lily Anna Farkas back from America for these four days, but we’ll of course be counting on her later. The squad isn’t at full-strength as we had a few requests from clubs not to call up certain players, and others aren’t fully recovered from minor knocks and injuries. Another player to join the squad later will be Viktória Ádám, who plays in England. We’re of course preparing for the mini-tournament; it’s our aim to forge a team which can be successful in the upcoming competitive games”, Turtóczki concluded.
