Women's futsal national team reaches Euro finals!

Tamás Frank's side defeated hosts Czech Republic 3-0 on the last day of the European qualifying tournament in Brno, thereby winning their group and qualifying for the four-team European Championship tournament finals next March.

Before the last day of the four-team tournament, all four teams still had a chance to qualify for the European Championship, but Hungary were in the best position, because they led the group on four points, which meant that any win against the Czechs would ensure qualification regardless of the result in the other group match.

Hungary started the match perfectly and took the lead after only 20 seconds, Gabriella Kota driving the ball into the goal from a corner. Thereafter, they defended in a disciplined and stable manner - Czech Republic tried in vain to equalise - and even had the bigger chances, Csilla Krascsenics and Adél Varga both seeing efforts saved.

Hungary preserved their lead in the second half despite heavy pressure and then extended it in the 32nd minute, Krascsenics controlling a good pass and shooting past the goalkeeper to double the lead. Six minutes later, possession was regained during a five-on-four move and Krascsenics slotted it into the empty net, finalising the 3-0 result.

The Final Four of the Women's Futsal European Championship will be held between 16th and 19th March and will also feature Spain, Ukraine and Portugal.

"Match by match we've performed better and better in the tournament. We controlled the game throughout today and the girls followed closely the tactics discussed before the match, remaining disciplined and stable. I would like to thank the team for their exemplary attitude; the players gave their all and have deservedly made it into the group of top four national teams in Europe. I'd also like to thank the staff for their work; everyone did a great job with the team and this was essential to our success", head coach Tamás Frank commented afterwards.
