Zsori in final three for FIFA Puskás Award
The fans have voted and now the FIFA legends will decide where Dániel Zsori will finish in the race for the 2019 FIFA Puskás Award for Goal of the Year.
FIFA's announcement last month of the ten candidates for the Puskás Award for Goal of the Year included a Hungarian goal for the first time in the competition's 11-year history, that of then-Debrecen player Dániel Zsóri's last-minute overhead kick against Ferencváros last season.
At midday on Monday, FIFA held a press conference in Milan's San Siro stadium where it was confirmed that more than 300,000 members of the public have voted to include Zsóri's goal in the final shortlist of three for the award, thus meaning that MOL Fehérvár's new signing has become the first Hungarian footballer to reach the final stage of the FIFA Puskás Award. His goal is all the more extraordinary given that it was the young forward's first ever OTP Bank Liga match and came against prospective league champions Ferencváros.
The Puskás Award is one of numerous prizes which will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards gala in the Teatro all Scala in Milan on 23rd September. Whether or not Zsóri will become the first Hungarian to win the prize will be decided by a designated group of FIFA Legends. The two other goals in the running for the award are Lionel Messi's chip for FC Barcelona away at Real Betis and Juan Fernando Quintero free-kick for River Plate against Racing Club.
