FIFA rankings list: Another big jump for Hungary

Hungary were ranked 47th in the October list but a trio of superb results in the last month has propelled Marco Rossi's side up into 40th position. Interestingly, none of the other top 100 nations in the list improved their ranking as significantly as we did, Romania also matching our seven-place improvement.

Rossi's team can thank their 2-1 win over Iceland, 1-1 draw with Serbia and 2-0 defeat of Turkey for the boost, the first achievement meaning that Hungary have qualified for Euro 2020 and the latter two results ensuring promotion to Nations League Division A courtesy of their division B group win ahead of Russia, Serbia and Turkey.

Hungary are now ranked the 22nd-best European nation and will be in the third pot of seeds for the 2022 World Cup qualification group draw in Zurich on 7th December.

Our prospective Euro 2020 group-stage opponents are all near the top, France in 2nd, Portugal in 6th and Germany in 13th position.
