Marco Rossi: Too many played below par

Hungary men's head coach Marco Rossi admits that Wales deserved to beat Hungary in their crucial European Championship contest last night.

Hungary fell 2-0 to Wales in Cardiff yesterday and therefore finish fourth in their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying group. Marco Rossi spoke to the international media after the match:

"Our attitude was appropriate, we fought and battled from the beginning of the match until the end. We played much better in the first half, when our opponent only had one effort on target but still scored from it. A little later, we had a great chance to score which we needed to take if we were to realise our European Championship dream; you need to score these types of chances. Then, we conceded a goal straight after the restart again from a situation which we should have solved without committing a foul.

We were knocked out of our stride by our mistakes and we couldn't realise what we'd planned because too many of our players played beneath the level of which they are capable. The opponent's top-quality players performed - we knew about their two-goal scorer Ramsay but we weren't able to stop him. Today, Wales were better and deservedly won the match, so we need to congratulate them, even if it's painful.

In this and in our previous qualifier away from home, we've missed numerous players and in Croatia our whole midfield was missing. Here, a whole defence was missing so from this point of view, we were unlucky. Everyone needs to see that, at this current time, we aremissing capable players and this clearly means that everyone needs to judge the performance of the national team on this basis".
