Positivity pervades camp ahead of Poland match

Hungary defenders Ádám Lang and Gergő Lovrencsics have highlighted the upbeat mood in the Hungary camp this week as the squad prepare to start their World Cup qualifying campaign against Poland tonight.

"I consider the Polish national team to be a little stronger than our autumn opponents: Russia, Turkey and Serbia. For evidence of that, we just need to look at Robert Lewandowski, currently the best striker in the world, to show that they are slightly stronger than our three earlier opponents", explained Lovrencsics, who is familiar with Polish football, having played for Lech Poznan for four years.

Our head coach knows the work of Paulo Sousa very well and knows the style and outlook his previous teams had. In the last few days we've been able to train with the foreign-based players too, so we could do different work in training than earlier when just the domestically-based players were present", the Ferencváros full-back added.

Ádám Lang also pointed out that although Poland will be extremely strong, the Hungarian national team has recently shown that it can match rivals of such strength.

"I think current form can determine the outcome of the match," Lang, who plays his club football for Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus. "To keep performing at the same level this spring as we did last autumn is, I think, mostly a mental issue".

Head coach Marco Rossi has also said this week in certain cases a draw could be a good result against Poland, but he will only prepare his team for victory.

It’s hard to say what kind of game Poland will play against us, but knowing Paulo Sousa, I expect an aggressive style, and we expect our opponent to try to put a lot of pressure on us and try to keep the ball a lot.

In the last two or three years, no one has managed to stop Poland's Robert Lewandowski from succeeding, so we have to help each other, play compactly to leave as few opportunities as possible and use the same strong team unity which has so far characterised us. We are aware of Poland's strength but we are preparing for victory and I wouldn't be able to prepare the team for any other result, although, depending on the development of the game, a draw could even be a good result against them.

I’m glad I recently signed a long-term contract with the federation, so my job is to further develop our game and, if possible, our results. As for Dominik Szoboszlai's absence, it won't be easy to make up for him, but we've played without him before and done well. There are several people who can replace him, Zsolt Kalmár being one of these players", Rossi continued.

Incidentally, Dominik Szoboszlai's management has provided information on the status of the currently-injured RB Leipzig star via his website last Friday evening. According to this, "Dominik's treatment is progressing at the right pace, but due to the location and nature of the injury, increased patience is needed. However, he is expected to be able to return to full training with his team and start preparations for the forthcoming European Championship".
