All three European ties finely poised after 1st-leg draws

All three Hungarian clubs retain hope of reaching the group stages of European competition this season after draws in their first legs on Thursday evening.

Ferencváros dominated their Europa League play-off 1st leg at home against Bosnian club Borac Banja Luka, but couldn't find the breakthrough and will therefore need a win away in the second leg next week in order to progress to the group stages without the need for extra time or penalties.

The other two European matches featuring Hungarian clubs were both goal-laden Conference League affairs, Paks turning around a first-half deficit to lead 2-1 going into added time at the end of their first leg away at Czech club Mladá Boleslav, but a 96th-minute red card for defender Bence Lenzsér and an unstoppable equaliser from the subsequent free-kick by Tomas Ladra means that the tie will stand even at 2-2 going into the second leg in Paks next Thursday.

Puskás Akadémia, meanwhile, are celebrating an impressive 3-3 draw away at Italian giants Fiorentina, but it could have been even better for Zsolt Hornyák's side had they held on to the two-goal advantage they'd built up after just 12 minutes of the first leg in Florence. As it was, the hosts recovered to lead 3-2 with 15 minutes to go,but Wojciech Golla's late header levelled matters and means there's all to play for in the Puskás Aréna next Thursday evening.
