Fradi restart NB I with a win but title rivals Vidi falter

League-leaders Ferencváros defeated Honvéd 1-0 to go eight points clear at the top in round 19 of the OTP Bank Liga as MOL Vidi fell to a shock 3-0 home defeat against Puskás Akadémia. Elsewhere, Paks picked up three points away to MTK, Debrecen and Újpest played out a 0-0 draw, Diósgyőr salvaged a point at home to Mezőkövesd and Kisvárda won on the road at Haladás.

Ferencváros dominated proceedings in the first half albeit failed to create any clear-cut chances until the half-hour mark, Davide Lanzafame testing Dávid Gróf in the Honvéd goal with an overhead effort and Gróf saving well from Roland Varga free-kick. At the other end, Dénes Dibusz denied David N’Gog in what was a rare Honvéd foray forward. The home side upped the ante after the break, keeping Honvéd penned back in their own half as the visitors relied on Gróf to get them out of jail on more than one occasion. The deadlock was eventually broken in the 82nd minute, substitute Dániel Böde finding space in the box following a shot from Ukrainian debutant Igor Haratin before firing home to give Ferencváros the three points.

New Puskás Akadémia head coach János Radoki got off to the perfect start in his new job with a convincing 3-0 win away to MOL Vidi. Jozef Urblik set them on their way with a stunning long-range strike in the 7th minute and Lajos Hegedüs' save from an Ákos Elek header ensured the visitors led at half-time. Armin Hodžić came close to levelling for Vidi on three occasions in the second half but András Radó made the most of a defensive mistake to put Puskás two ahead, and with minutes left to play, substitute Bachana Arabuli added a third from close-range.

Elsewhere, Debrecen and Újpest shared the points in a 0-0 draw at the Nagyerdei Stadion, a result which sees Loki move two points clear of Honvéd and Újpest in third spot and only three behind second-placed Vidi. In mid-table, Paks moved to within two points of opponents MTK after winning 2-1 at the Hidegkuti Stadion. A spectacular overhead shot from Mohamed Remili gave them the lead before half-time, left-back János Szabó adding a second with fifteen minutes to go, and although István Bognár got a goal back late on for MTK, Paks held firm.

Meanwhile, Mezőkövesd were moments away from victory at Diósgyőr courtesy of an early second-half Gábor Molnár strike, only for Richárd Vernes to head home the equaliser in the 94th minute. The 1-1 draw means that Kisvárda, 1-0 victors away to Haladás thanks to a close-range Zoltán Horváth strike, move above them into 10th place as the Miskolc side fall into the relegation placings.
