Gulácsi and Jakabfi reign again

Péter Gulácsi and Zsanett Jakabfi retained their Hungarian men's and women's footballer of the year titles by taking the 2019 awards at the M4 Sport - Sportspeople of the Year Gala in the National Theatre on Thursday.

Members of the Hungarian Sports Journalists' Association voted for the 62nd year to decide which of Hungary's sportspeople should be recognised as the best in the various categories and in the football sections, there were no surprises, Gulácsi again announced as the best male player for his goalkeeping exploits with German club RB Leipzig and the Hungarian national team. Amongst the women, it was Jakabfi, the VfL Wolfsburg and Hungary striker who stood out again as also she retained the title she won this time last year.

The Goal of the Year prize went, as expected, to FIFA Puskás Award winner Dániel Zsóri on the basis of a public vote and expert panel decision, naturally for the current Fehérvár forward's last-minute overhead kick for Debrecen against Ferencváros on his debut last February.

The Hungarian Football Association's Lifetime Achievement award was presented to György Mezey, the former national team coach and UEFA Pro Licence founder.
