Gulácsi and Kerkez face journalists of the future
Hungary held an unusual press conference at its team headquarters in Germany on Monday when local children took their opportunity to ask international wide player Milos Kerkez and goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi questions in place of the professional journalists normally present.
Children aged 6-14 were able to apply for the opportunity a few days ahead of the event and those who submitted the best, most interesting questions were invited to the team's media centre. Gulácsi and Kerkez sat down on the media centre's press stage in front of 16 budding journalists and answered questions for around twenty minutes, the children skilfully interrogating the two players on numerous occasions, for example, when they asked how much money they earn from football or what tactics they'll use against the Germans. However, as experienced and media-savvy speakers, Gulácsi and Kerkez manoeuvred themselves out of even the most difficult situations without ever being in fear of revealing closely-guarded secrets.
The topics included questions on their favourite food, music and memorable childhood experiences, as well as requests for advice on how to become a professional footballer. After an initial shyness, the children became so involved in the questions that they only reluctantly allowed the players to hurry off to their pre-training team meeting. In the end, there wasn't time to ask all the questions, but Gulácsi and Kerkez made up for that by providing autographs and posing with the young journalists for a group photo.
"We've felt the love of the locals from the first minute here. The hospitality in Weiler has been wonderful and this press event shows how many people are interested in the Hungarian national team. I really enjoyed these twenty minutes when the children asked us with genuine curiosity about our careers, behind the scenes in professional football and our personal lives. We were asked some testing questions, but we tried to answer them all and I hope the children had as much fun in this short time as we did," Gulácsi told mlsz.hu.
