Haladás become futsal champions of Hungary for third straight year
The Szombathely club has won the Hungarian futsal championship title for the third time in their history after following up two earlier victories by defeating MVFC Berettyóújfalu 7-1 in the third leg of this best-of-five final.
The first two stages of the men's futsal championship final brought a pair of exciting and fierce battles, Haladás beating their opponent 5-4 after extra time in the first match at home and then only via a penalty shootout away in the second match in Berettyóújfalu. Those two narrow victories meant 'Hali' had the chance to secure the championship title in Thursday's home match.
There wasn't much difference between the two teams in the first half of this latest contest either, but Haladás seemed even more focused this time, an impression substantiated by their seizure of the lead in the first ten minutes through Balázs Rutai.
Berettyóújfalu switched to a five-on-four attack in the 12th minute, but couldn't reap any rewards, not even from a short penalty, Marcell Alasztics saving Iszák's shot. They would rue their inability to equaise when Gergő Sipos doubled Haladás's lead from 10 metres early in the second half and two minutes later, Sipos scored again, this time after stealing possession and lifting the ball into an empty goal from distance.
Another minute later, Hajmási chipped into an empty net from his own half to make the score 4-0, but still the visitors attacked while using their goalkeeper to create a man advantage, and in the 32nd minute they belated got some small measure of reward when Imre Nagy pulled a goal back, but that was as good as it got for Berettyóújfalú. In the 35th minute, Haladás scored again, this time through Luigi Longo, and this was followed by two more goals through Ádám Vas and Olivér Knizs which set the final result at 7-1 to the reigning champions.
Haladás thus celebrated its third championship in a row and also the third championship title in its history.
