Hungarian clubs receive news of European opponents
The draw for the initial qualifying rounds of UEFA's three European club competitions for male footballers in season 2024/25 was made on Wednesday
Ferencvárosi TC won the OTP Bank Liga last season, Paksi FC finished runners-up, Puskás Akadémia won the bronze medal, while Fehérvár FC took fourth place. These will be the four clubs who will represent our country in European competition next season, and at yesterday and today's UEFA draws in Nyon it was decided which opponents the Hungarian teams will face first.
Thanks to successful performances in previous years, Hungarian champions Ferencváros will join the Champions League qualifiers in the second qualifying round, their opponent will be the winner of one of the first-round pairings, the match between The New Saints FC of Wales and FK Decic of Montenegro. The first match will be played on July 23/24, while the return fixture will be played a week later.
Hungarian league runners-up and Hungarian Cup winners Paksi FC will face Romanian Cup winners Corvinul Hunedoara of the Romanian second tier in the first round of the Europa League qualifiers. The ties will be held on 11th and 18th July with Paks starting at home.
In the European Conference League, The OTP Bank Liga's bronze-medal team Puskás Akadémia face Ukrainian club Dnipro, while fourth-placed Fehérvár will take on Azeri club Sumqayit. Both teams will participate in the second qualifying round, the dates of the ties being 25th July and 1st August 2024.
