Hungarian Cup: Debrecen, Vidi, Honvéd and Soroksár reach semi-finals
Debrecen came from behind to win away to Mezőkövesd, David N’Gog bagged a hat-trick for Honvéd in their 4-2 victory over Budaörs, Vidi triumphed 2-0 against a Ferencváros side which finished the match with nine men, and second division Soroksár went through on penalties against last season’s finalists, Puskás Akadémia.
One-nil up from the first leg, Debrecen held on to their slender lead until the 45th minute of their quarter-final second leg away to Mezőkövesd, Stefan Dražić stooping to head home from close range following a corner from the right. Half-time substitute Tamás Takács levelled the scores on the night with a glancing header from an Ádám Bódi free-kick to put Debrecen in the driving seat.
In need of two goals, Mezőkövesd’s task became harder with the sending off of Gábor Eperjesi, and Debrecen sealed their place in the semi-finals in the 87th minute, substitute Richárd Czősz lashing a shot into the top-right corner from the edge of the box. Debrecen go through 3-1 on aggregate.
Puskás Akadémia took a 27th lead against second-division Soroksár courtesy of a Bachana Arabuli header but were pegged back with only seven minutes remaining, Attila Lőrinczy drilling the ball into the corner of the net after the ball fell to him in the box. With the first leg having also finished one apiece, penalties were required to separate the teams, and with the scores at 3-3 after five penalties each, sudden-death ensued. Both teams scored their sixth spot-kick, but when Benedik Mioč blasted his effort over the bar, Gábor Dvorschák kept his composure to fire Soroksár into the semis 5-4 on penalties.
Honvéd, 2-1 up from the away leg held in Tatabánya, raced into a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of two David N’Gog goals and another from league top scorer Filip Holender. Former Liverpool striker N’Gog completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute, and although Budaörs scored two goals through Miklós Sajbán and Áron Fejős, Attila Supka’s side eased through 6-3 on aggregate.
2-1 down from the first leg in Budapest, Ferencváros started brightly against Vidi at the MOL Aréna Sóstó, but with Dénes Dibusz being sent off in the 7th minute for clattering into Marko Šćepović the tie would prove beyond the green and whites. Boban Nikolov opened the scoring after 58 minutes, latching on to a pass from Stopira before cutting inside Abraham Frimpong, Ivan Petrjak and Lasha Dvali and slotting past sub-keeper Ádám Holczer from 16 yards.
Georgi Milanov killed the tie in the 82nd minute, playing a one-two with István Kovács and outpacing the Ferencváros – now down to nine men with Igor Haratin going off injured and Serhiy Rebrov having made all three substitutions – defence and firing low into the right corner of the net from just inside the box. Vidi progress 4-1 on aggregate.
The semi-final draw was made after the final whistle in Székesfehérvár by former Ferencváros, Vidi and Soroksár player Gábor Gyepes.
