Hungarian Cup: Fradi, Vidi, Honvéd and Debrecen secure 1st-leg leads
The round of sixteen in the 2018/19 Hungarian Cup got underway this week with top-flight Debrecen winning 3-2 away to 3rd division Ajka on Tuesday, and Ferencváros, Vidi and Honvéd all earning themselves an advantage on Wednesday to take into next week’s second legs.
With the 2018/19 Hungarian Cup down to the last sixteen, nine NB I sides remain, with four NB II and three NB III teams making up the other sides hopeful of reaching the quarter-finals.
Debrecen got the ball rolling on Tuesday with a 3-2 win away to third-division Ajka, 17-year-old Ádám Pintér scoring a late winner after strikes from Tamás Takács and Krisztián Kuti had been cancelled out.
Three all-first-division ties were played on Wednesday, Ferencváros defeating Kisvárda 2-0 at the Groupama Aréna thanks to goals from Davide Lanzafame and Dániel Böde, Paks defeating Puskás Akadémia 2-1 in Felcsút with Tamás Egerszegi and János Hahn on the scoresheet, and Mezőkövesd and Haladás drawing 0-0.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Armin Hodžić scored the only goal as MOL Vidi won 1-0 away to third-division Taksony, Honvéd won 1-0 away to second-division Tiszakécske thanks to a goal from new signing Anis Ben-Hatira, Budaörs edged the all-second-division tie against Kaposvár 3-2, and second-division Soroksár also won 3-2, at home to third-division Andráshida.
Return legs are to be held on 26 and 27 February
