Hungary await 2022 World Cup qualifying draw
The draw takes place today at 6pm in Zurich with Hungary's men's team in the 3rd pot of seeds. Following the draw, head coach Marco Rossi will give a quick assessment of the group via MLSZ's Instagram account.
Thirteen teams from Europe will qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Of these, ten (the winners of each of the ten World Cup qualifying groups) will progress automatically and three via play-offs. In addition to the ten group runners-up, two national teams will take part in the play-offs based on their Nations League results (the two teams with the best Nations League finishes, and who aren't amongst the World Cup qualifying group winners or runners-up). The European World Cup qualifying play-offs will be comprised of three branches, each with four teams, in a semi-final-to-final system in March 2022.
The teams that make up the qualifying groups later today will be drawn from six pots, five of which will be made up of ten teams and one of which will consist of five. The first 10 European teams in FIFA's rankings will be in the first pot, the second pot will be madeup of the teams ranked 11-20 in FIFA's rankings and so on and so on.
