Hungary men complete first training session ahead of double-header

The Hungary men’s national squad have arrived in Telki and head coach Marco Rossi has held his first training session ahead of Thursday's European qualifier against Serbia in Belgrade.

On Monday, news broke that Dániel Gazdag, the attacking midfielder who plays his club football for Philadelphia Union in the USA, won’t be able to join the national squad this time due to an injury, so plans have continued without him. One half of the squad undertook regeneration exercises on Monday afternoon, while those who did not play for their clubs last Sunday trained on the centre pitch of the national training centre in Telki under Rossi’s leadership. The last member of the squad to join up was Ádám Lang, who arrived on Monday evening.

Before the training session, forward Barnabás Varga, who is in excellent form at club level, spoke to journalists in attendance:

We’re travelling to Belgrade for three points, but Serbia won’t give away those points easily. Their squad is full of players from top leagues, but now we also have almost as many players at that level, which is definitely an advantage for us compared to previous matches. At the same time, this will be most difficult match of the campaign so far”, the Ferencváros striker confirmed.

Soma Suhodovszki, one of the newcomers to the full national-team setup, said he’d arrived home at dawn after Kecskemét's match on Sunday evening, so only had a short rest before leaving for Telki.

"I'm happy to be here! Everyone has accepted me very quickly; it's like I've become part of a family. Of course, I have no expectations regarding playing minutes, but I want to show how much I have in me", Sukhodovski added.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the squad took part in training sessions at the MLSZ’s Telki training base before travelling to Belgrade, the venue of Thursday's Euro qualifier. Following that fixture, Hungary will host Czech Republic in a friendly match on 10th September in Budapest’s Puskás Arena.
