Marco Rossi: Everyone wants to improve

Hungary's head coach emphasised at Saturday's press conference in Telki that Azerbaijan should not be underestimated, but also that only a win in Sunday's UEFA 2020 European Championship qualifier would be acceptable.

"As for the starting eleven, we'll only decide who is given an opportunity after our last training on Saturday. In any case, everyone can expect that we will respond to the defeat in Croatia; but people need to know that this will be another kind of match against Azerbaijan. We'll be on our home pitch but a difficult, complicated contest awaits us. The Azerbaijani team have already proven their skills in this Euro qualifying campaign on several occasions. We view our opponent with the utmost respect", Marco Rossi said at a press conference ahead of Sunday's match.

Rossi went on to stress that his team will do everything they can to secure victory in front of a crowd numbering more than 15,000 schoolchildren in the Groupama Arena, just as they will in Wales, where it seems another three points will be necessary in order to qualify for UEFA Euro 2020.

"After such a defeat, as in Croatia, every single player wants to correct their mistakes and prove themselves, so it is not difficult to build most of them up. On the way home, we talked about the match and the next morning we started preparing for the match against Azerbaijan".

The Italian concluded by adding that he was most disappointed with the attitude of the players:

"I accept mistakes and admit to myself if I make mistakes. However, at these times you have to change your attitude. The name of a national coach in Hungarian is very expressive; captain of the federation. On this ship, I am the captain and I need to make the decisions for the benefit of the team. Tomorrow's result is also very important to me".

National-team winger Roland Sallai followed his head coach by admitting he first needed to get his head straight after the poor result last Thursday:

"We've already discussed the mistakes in the dressing room. How we played in Split isn't our true face. We can play much better football than that".

This UEFA 2020 European Championship qualifier between Hungaray and Azebaijan will be refereed by Dennis Johan Higler from the Netherlands. Assisting him will be his compatriots Johan Balder and Joost van Zuilen, with Hendrikus S.H. Bas Nijhuis as the 4th official.
