Marco Rossi: There couldn’t be a better ambassador for UEFA Euro 2020 than Gera
Zoltán Gera was named Budapest Ambassador for UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this week and Hungary Men's head coach Marco Rossi, under whom Gera works as a coach, believes the 97-time capped former forward is the best possible choice to popularise the tournament which will be co-hosted by Budapest next summer.
Mr Rossi personally congratulated the Ferencváros club and Hungary national-team assistant coach on his new role. Both he and Gera would like to contribute towards the success of the UEFA 2020 European Championship as coaches of the Hungarian national team, especially now with an ambassador amongst the coaching staff.
“It’s the first time in my career that I’ve had the opportunity to work with an ambassador. I’m very proud that one of the UEFA European Championship Ambassadors is also part of our coaching setup” said Rossi. “In all seriousness, I believe that Zoltán is the best man for the task of being UEFA Euro 2020 Budapest Ambassador. He had a wonderful playing career, but he is also exceedingly professional and determined as a coach. I liked him a lot as a player and I only have good things to say about him as a coach, but at the same time I like him best as a person.
You could see how enthusiastic he was about his newest task and the whole of Euro 2020 when the announcement was made. I believe that he if anyone can pass on that enthusiasm to everyone, especially the fans. Although he spoke very modestly about who might have been more suitable for the role of ambassador, I am certain that it wouldn’t have been possible to find a better person for the role”.
