Nations League: Men's squad together in Telki

An injury to Dániel Gazdag has prohibited the attacking midfielder from travelling home from America, but every other squad member has now gathered at MLSZ's training centre and started preparations for the Nations League matches against Germany and Bosnia in the coming week.

Monday morning saw the squad congregate at the Hungarian FA's national training centre in Telki and they were soon hard at work by the afternoon, all that is, except for Gazdag, who was injured in his club Philadelphia Union's match at the weekend and hasn't travelled home for September's international matches. The players trained in two separate groups - one regeneratikn session comprising those who'd played matches in the preceding days and the other made up of those who hadn't, the latter participating in ball exercises on the main pitch.

Ahead of that session though, Zsolt Nagy and potential debutant Bence Gergényi spoke to the attending media:

"I'd be happy with the same amount of points and margin of goal difference as in the most recent edition - it would be fantastic if we could do that again," Nagy claimed. We'll face two extraordinarily strong teams in Germany and the Netherlands, while it won't be easy against Bosnia either - there are never any easy opponents in the A League! We have some new players in our squad, but the atmosphere in Telki continues to be family-like and everyone is waiting with excitement for the first Nations League matches."

This summer, Bence Gergényi moved from Fehérvár to Újpest FC, his promising early-season form enough to persuade Hungary head coach Marco Rossi that he should earn an international call-up. The left-sided defender will already know some in the setup though, having appeared with several squad members at youth international level.

"For me, the main aim in the national team is settle into the team in every way and produce my best performances possible in our training sessions. I know Marco Rossi already, because I grew up in the Hungarian Football Academy at Kispest (Budapest Honvéd FC) and sometimes trained with the first team under his guidance," Gergényi recounted.

Hungary starts its Nations League campaign away against Germany in Düsseldorf on 7th September before hosting Bosznia-Hercegovina in the Puskás Aréna three days later, noth fixtures kicking off at 20:45 CET.

At the start of the year and during the second half of the summer, close to 40,000 Hungarian fans took the chance to buy mini-season tickets for the Nations League home matches, so there are limited numbers of tickets still available in some areas. Tickets for the Bosnia match are on sale now in four price categories on the meccsjegy.mlsz.hu webpage, those prices ranging from 7,000, 13,000, 20,000 up to 25,000 forints (HUF).
