Paks claim maiden Hungarian Cup!

Two extra-time goals presented Paks with their first ever major honour as György Bognár's team defeated reigning Hungarian league champions Ferencváros 2-0 in a near-full-to-capacity Puskás Aréna on Wednesday evening.

A goalless but otherwise dramatic first 90 minutes saw Paks goalkeeper Péter Szappanos save Barnabás Varga's penalty on the half-hour mark before both sides were reduced to ten players, Paks' Bàlint Vécsei seeing red for a foul in the 38th minute and Ferencváros' Menty Abena being dismissed 15 minutes from the end of normal time for a second bookable offence.

Extra time was needed to separate the two teams in front of a 51,900 crowd and it was Paks who seized the initiative in the 98th minute, Kristóf Papp heading in Balázs Balogh's excellent corner before substitute Zsolt Haraszti sealed Paks' first MOL Hungarian Cup title with a goal from a counter attack with just seconds remaining of the second half of extra time.
