Puskás Aréna to host 2026 UEFA Champions League final!
UEFA's Executive Committee has decided the venues for the 2026 and 2027 Champions League finals at a meeting in Dublin and following prestigious international events of previous years, UEFA has now awarded Hungary the hosting of the 2026 CL final, the most prestigious club final.
MLSZ president Dr Sándor Csányi spoke to mlsz.hu after the announcement:
"With this decision, UEFA has recognised the international work of MLSZ. European football's governing body appreciates that in recent years, the Hungarian football federation has demonstrated its ability, step by step, to organise events of increasing importance. After the women's CL final, the Under-21 European championship, and the 2020 Super Cup, the 2021 European Championship and last year's Europa League final were also successfuly organised. The Puskás Arena and the infrastructure provided by the government for the organization of UEFA events has played a big role in this. By holding the most prestigious European club football match in Budapest, the MLSZ will achieve another set strategic goal. This is important because the organisation of the Champions League final also contributes to the continuation of the development of football in our country and to a further increase in popularity."
Since 2010, Hungary has hosted many important UEFA events. In 2014, we hosted the men's U19 European Championship, the women's Champions League final in 2019, the UEFA Super Cup final in 2020, the U21 European Championship in 2021, and were co-hosts of the men's European Championship, also in 2021. Last year, uniquely, three important UEFA events were organised in Hungary: the men's U17 European Championship, the women's Futsal European Championship final and the men's Europa League final and, in addition, Hungary has been a neutral venue for numerous club matches in European competition and national-team matches in recent years.
