Rossi: Leading group not important right now
Hungary successfully negotiated their third Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday, defeating Lithuania 2-0 and taking the lead in group G. However, according to Marco Rossi, occupying first place doesn't matter at this stage and the team must continue to perform outstandingly well in their forthcoming fixtures.
"We took many shots today - not always with success, it's true - but if we wouldn't even try, it'd be much more difficult to score a goal, especially against a deeply defensive opponent", Rossi stated. "Changes in tempo were also missing in Montenegro, but this time they were there. For this, it was necessary to take a risk by playing several forwards. The guys did what we agreed to do on the pitch, but by the second half we were a bit tired; we held on to the ball more and couldn't always play at high speed and dynamically. Apart from that, though, we performed well. There's still room for improvement in the small details and we'll work on this. Being in first place now doesn't matter as only three games have been played. We'll have a tough match against Serbia in September, but there are no easy matches in this group anyway, as evidenced by Serbia's draw in Bulgaria today. For the rest of the campaign we must display the best of our skills in every match".
