Rossi: Maybe a draw would have been fairer
Hungary Men remain undefeated in 13 matches, having started 2024 with a single-goal victory against highly-rated Turkey in the Puskás Aréna. According to national-team head coach Marco Rossi, perhaps a draw would have been a fairer result, but nevertheless, he was glad to see several good performances.
“I’m more satisfied with the result than with today's performance”, Rossi explained in the post-match press conference. “We had good moments, but in certain situations we suffered too much and didn’t make the right decisions at the end of some of our moves. We could have done better upfront, but for our attackers, it wasn’t their day today. The defence wasn't perfect either, but of course we did some good things on the pitch and there was no problem with the desire, so nobody can be criticised for their performance. It was an even match and, to be honest, a draw would have been a fairer result. Péter Gulácsi played perfectly – we have two top goalkeepers and if the situation would be similar in all positions on the pitch, we’d be among the ten best teams in the world. It seems that in the future I will have to use rock-paper-scissors to decide who to play in goal! I’m happy with the good performances, for example, Schäfer's display and I’d like to also congratulate Márton Dárdai on his debut. Maybe in the next match, more uncapped players will get the opportunity to make their first international appearances”.
