Rossi: The stakes are high against Montenegro too
Hungary's pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday afternoon's concluding European Championship qualification group G fixture featured Marco Rossi and defender Botond Balogh, both of whom were in positive and ebullient mood.
Thursday's 2-2 draw in Bulgaria secured Hungary's qualification to next year's European Championship in Germany, but there is still one more match ahead of them on Sunday afternoon, in which they can secure the first place in the qualifying group. At Saturday's press conference, national coach Marco Rossi made it clear that the last game against Montenegro will be just as important for the national team as all the others were.
"Of course, qualification has released the pressure, but the stakes will still be high against Montenegro because a celebration together with our fans could be really authentic if we could complete the job with a victory in front of a packed Puskás Arena," Rossi told reporters. "I've said before that every match holds the same importance for us, and we have to enter the pitch with the same attitude in every one. Tomorrow l, we also want to win for our fans and of course an important motivation is that we want to reach the European Championship as group winners and be in the second pot of seeds in the draw," explained Rossi, who added in response to a journalist's question that three or four changes can be expected in the starting lineup compared to the eleven who started in Sofia. This will happen because the match against Montenegro will require different tactics and attitudes, and accordingly, different player characters than were needed in Thursday's game.
Parma defender Botond Balogh also participated in the press conference, stating he's confident he'll be given an opportunity in Sunday's match and that he wants to prove that he is worthy of consideration for the squad which will to Euro 24 next summer:
"Obviously, there are emotions which emerge from players after such a success and that was clear out on the pitch in Sofia. Of course, we celebrated on the way home and a little bit even at home, but only in our own way, because we still have a very important match ahead of us. Montenegro are a very good team with excellent players, fighters who will give 100%, but we are the same".
Saturday afternoon's training session was sat out by Roland Sallai, Péter Gulácsi and Martin Ádám, all due to minor injuries, but Milos Kerkez, who will be suspended for Sunday's match after to his red card in Sofia, did feature.
