Rossi: There's no such thing as a friendly match
Hungary Men's head coach Marco Rossi held his pre-match press conference in Telki before Sunday's international friendly against Czech Republic and revealed that while he may name a starting lineup similar to recent competitive fixtures, it's possible that more debutants will follow Mihály Kata's example against Serbia last Thursday.
Rossi, who accepted congratulations from those present on the occasion of his 59th birthday today, was in buoyant mood as attention turned to Sunday's match against the Czechs:
"There's no such thing as a friendly match for the national team. We are working on building not only the present team, but also a team for the future, so every match is very important," he emphasised. "When we put on the national-team jersey we represent the whole country, which is a serious responsibility for the staff and players, so we never experiment; we try to send the most competitive team on to the pitch every time," Rossi continued, before revealing that Dénes Dibusz will start in goal but there may be a change in this position during the match.
"The starting line-up will be roughly the same as in recent matches. There's a chance that we will give another debut if the game is going in a way we'd like it to. In Belgrade, for example, this was the case, so Mihály Kata, who made his debut as a substitute, came on and gave the performance we expected from him. We have the utmost confidence in all our squad members, so if we select them, we're sure they will perform well," Rossi concluded.
Defender Ádám Lang also spoke at the press conference, professing that it won't be difficult for the team to raise itsef again just three days after the European qualifiers in Belgrade.
"Even though we're not playing a competitive match against Czech Republic, everyone is taking it as seriously as the European Championship qualifiers. We want to continue our good run so we're preparing with the same seriousness and detailed analysis of the opponent as we do before the qualifiers. As top professionals, we want to win every match, so we also want to end the match against the Czechs with a good result," Lang assured those listening.
Every player in the group participated fully in Saturday's subsequent training session, which means that Rossi can count on all of his players on Sunday evening.
This friendly match against the Czech Republic will be refereed by Croatia's Igor Pajač. His assistants will be compatriots Ivan Mihalj and Kristijan Novosel, the 4th referee Patrik Kolarić and the VAR assistant Ante Čuljak.
