Rossi: We did all we could, but Turkey were better

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi says it's important not to let our heads drop if we concede a goal and that we need to be more clinical in attack in order to be successful.
We need to improve our use of opportunities, but it's also important to take into account the strength of the opponent we faced, Rossi told media after the Nations League play-off match against Turkey, in which two players made their Hungary debuts.
"Regarding our scoring opportunities, we were unable to take advantage of them. We created many chances and were barely able to score from them at all, so we definitely need to improve on this. In this case, on the one hand, we can talk about quality, but there is also a bit of bad luck involved, although after 3-1 and 3-0 defeats, we can't just blame bad luck for not being successful," Hungary's head coach admitted.
"We conceded a goal in the transitions and Turkey won a penalty, which could have been avoided. We knew very well how they would try to play football and how they like to play in free spaces, while we also made a tactical mistake for the third goal, which is unacceptable. We also need to work on the mental part, because at home, as in Istanbul, we conceded two goals within a few minutes, and we definitely need to improve on that. I don't even remember if this has ever happened to us before, but now it's happened twice and we've paid a big price for it. You can't give up on the match after a goal, because there are still 60 or 70 minutes left."
"We need to discuss this together and discover what the real reason for this could be. However, we also need to keep in mind the quality of our opponent, because although Turkey are not as strong as, for example, Germany or Spain, they are just behind the top teams in terms of their strength, with high-quality players and a great coach. Really, we'll play the most important matches of this year in the autumn, when we play the World Cup qualifiers, but the Nations League has always been important for us; it has influenced the FIFA rankings and given us the chance to play against some of the top nations, which was positive not only for us, but also for the fans."
"We've lost this one, so I congratulate Turkey. They were stronger, but we tried our best and when assessing the tie, we should also take into account who was at our disposal and whom we were missing. Our two debutants, Bence Dárdai and Alex Tóth, also played well when they got their chances, so we know we have two talented, young players whom we can imagine being part of our future, Rossi concluded."
