Rossi: We don't experiment - there's reason behind every action

Hungary are back in action tomorrow, just four days after Friday’s victory against Turkey, when Marco Rossi’s team will host Kosovo at the Puskás Aréna. The day before the game, national-team captain for this match Ádám Lang, whose first cap came almost 10 years ago, joined Rossi at the pre-match press conference.

Amongst other topics, journalists asked Lang about the fact that in May it’ll be ten years since he made his debut in the national team, and that he has played in every national-team fixture since 2021.

"I try to do my best every day. We’re all human and anyone can have a bad day, but I feel I have an inner strength which helps me grit my teeth (and get on with it),” Lang explained. "I’ve had to overcome many obstacles in my life and I always found the motivation to do so. In addition, I may have some talent and an intelligence that allows me to use my talent as well as possible. Of course, I’m grateful to the coaching staff for continuously selecting me. I'm glad I’ve been able to play in so many consecutive matches for the national team, but that's in the past and I'm always looking forward. A dream of mine has come true by being able to play international football. it's been ten years since I made my debut in May and every single moment of my national team career so far has been a great experience," continued the defender, who also touched on the match against Kosovo in his closing comments. "The day after the match against Turkey, we analysed our mistakes and discussed what we need to change. The fact that we all hadn’t met for such a long time also contributed to these mistakes, because it takes time for the old routines to be finetuned again. It shows the strength of the team that we react well to these situations even when the game is not going perfectly. Of course, we’re happy with the victory, but we have to play with fewer mistakes against Kosovo".

Marco Rossi has also reached a significant milestome in terms of his matches for the national team, tomorrow’s match being the one which will take him past Kálmán Mészöly’s number of matches in charge of Hungary and into third position as the coach leading Hungary in the most fixtures.

"I’m proud to overtake Kálmán Mészöly in this match against Kosovo, because he is a legend of Hungarian football. Of course, I wouldn’t compare myself to him, but this is a milestone for me,” Rossi began. ”Everything we do, we do with a specific goal; we don’t experiment. There will be changes to the lineup which faced Turkey, but the players on the pitch will be ones we’ll be counting on for the European Championship. We won’t try any tactics or formations which we wouldn’t be using in the summer. We’re primarily preparing for the tournament in Germany, but it’s obvious that our long-term goal is continuous development,” Rossi continued before responding to questions about the goalkeeper position.

"I don't know who’ll be our number one goalkeeper at the European Championships. Dénes Dibusz has held the position for more than a year now and has, in addition, been a key player of Hungary's strongest club team for a decade now. I don't want to offend the fans of Ferencváros, but at the same time, it is a fact that RB Leipzig is an even better team, since they are play in a top league. However, if we only look at the two goalkeepers, Dénes Dibusz and Péter Gulácsi are equally good; they are both top goalkeepers. There are things Gulácsi is better at and others Dibusz is better at. I will rely on both of them at the European Championship, but I reserve the right to wait unti the last moment to decide, if necessary. I ask the fans of the national team to be understanding, to trust that we’ll make the right decision for the team and to support them no matter who’ll be in the goal!”
