Rossi: We had to suffer a lot for this victory
After Hungary's fabulous 2-1 triumph away against Serbia in Belgrade on Thursday, head coach Marco Rossi was understandably proud of his players, saying they reactly superbly to going a goal down and didn't deserve anything less than the win:
"We suffered a lot in today's match but worked hard on the pitch, especially in the second half when we allowed our opponent too much space (to play in)", Rossi admitted. "Against Serbia, it's a given that a team will suffer, as the home team focused on playing with all their strength and their game was characterised by very intense pressing. We played very well in the first half and I don't think we deserved a worse result. We reacted brilliantly to the goal, the players were disciplined in following the tactical instructions even when they were a goal down, which is a very difficult task, and thanks to this, we were able to turn it around. My players did not give up the fight for a moment, not even in the first half, and especially not in the second.
We're in the middle of a development process, so we want to improve and progress game by game. We played a very important match here against Serbia, but from the point of view of the development process, every match is an important test in which we can measure whether we've able to make progress compared to earlier matches. We continue to build a team for the future in which young players will play a part. I'd like to congratulate the players and would also like to single out Ádám Nagy and Loic Nego, because I received a lot of criticism for selecting them but I think that after their performance today, their critics also now have reason to congratulate them".
