Rossi: We'll go through difficult moments against Ireland
Hungary's head coach is expecting a very difficult match against the Republic of Ireland.
The Aviva Stadium in Dublin is the venue for Hungary's latest Euro 2024 warm-up match against hosts Republic of Ireland on Monday evening. Hungary head coach Marco Rossi and midfielder Callum Styles took part in the pre-match press conference.
"Ireland will be a very tough opponent. It is difficult to play against them, something which was recently shown against two top teams, Belgium and Switzerland. We'll meet a physically very strong, spirited team whose players play in the English first and second tiers. It's going to be a high-tempo, intense game, and with the Irish playing style being very similar to that of Scotland, we'll be in for a useful game and a great test ahead of the European Championship. I'm sure we'll have difficult moments in the match, so it'll be important how we'll handle these moments", explained Rossi, who revealed that Márton Dárdai will start in the left central defender position, but he plans to bring on Attila Szalai as a substitute at some point in the match.
Hungary's head coach also said that Attila Fiola isn't completing full training sessions for the time being, so he won't play on Tuesday, but Rossi's already counting on him to play against Israel in a few days' time. Krisztofer Horváth is also struggling with a minor injury, so he won't play in Dublin either, while Bendegúz Bolla and Dániel Gazdag only joined the squad on Monday due to club commitments, so they will watch from the sidelines too. Callum
Styles joined the squad a few days ago and knows the Ireland players better than most, having played against many of them in the English league in recent years.
"I know many Irish players from the English Championship, so can confidently say our opponents are quality footballers in the middle and upfront", Styles commented. "They are physically strong, so we have to be very prepared for that, but at the same time, we have to try to play our own game. Neutralising their playmaker Josh Cullen - their 20-times capped midfielder - could be key".
The match, which starts at 20:45 CET, will be refereed by Portugal's Luis Miguel Branco Godinho and his assistants will be Rui Miguel Martins Teixeira and Nelson Filipe Vila Pereira. The 4th referee will be Irish official Paul McLaughlin.
